Naukri, LinkedIn and Indeed Resume Tips
How Naukri, LinkedIn and Indeed rank your profile and resume — plus practical tips on headlines, key skills, profile updates and uploads that get more recruiter views.
In India, most private-sector job searches run through three platforms: Naukri, LinkedIn and Indeed. Each works like a giant applicant tracking system. Recruiters search millions of profiles with keywords and filters, and the platform decides whose profile appears first.
That means your success depends on two things: your uploaded resume and your profile fields. This guide covers how each platform finds candidates and what you can do to show up higher.
How recruiters search job portals
Recruiters using Naukri's resume database (Resdex), LinkedIn Recruiter or Indeed's resume search typically filter by:
- Keywords — skills, tools, job titles, company names;
- Experience — total years, sometimes per skill;
- Location — current city and preferred locations;
- Salary — current and expected CTC;
- Notice period — immediate joiners are often prioritised;
- Education — degree, specialisation, institute, year;
- Activity — recently active or recently updated profiles.
If any of these fields are empty or inaccurate, you can be filtered out before anyone sees your resume.
Naukri tips
Write a keyword-rich resume headline
Your headline is one of the first things recruiters see in search results. Make it specific: role, experience, top skills and domain. Avoid "Looking for a job". See 50 Naukri resume headline examples.

Fill "Key Skills" carefully
Naukri matches recruiter searches heavily against Key Skills. Add 10–20 relevant skills using common spellings ("Power BI", "Tally Prime", "Spring Boot"). Remove outdated or irrelevant ones.
Complete every profile section
Profile summary, employment details, education, IT skills, projects, certifications and accomplishments all add searchable text. Incomplete profiles tend to rank lower.
Keep salary, location and notice period realistic
These are hard filters. If you're open to relocating, add preferred locations. If your notice period is negotiable, say so in your profile summary.
Update your profile regularly
Recruiters often filter by "active in the last 15/30 days". Logging in and making small, genuine updates — a new skill, a project, a refreshed resume — keeps your profile fresh.
Upload an ATS-friendly resume
Naukri parses your uploaded resume and shows it to recruiters. A two-column or image-based resume may display badly. Use a single-column, text-based format and check it with our ATS checker first.
LinkedIn tips
Headline: not just your job title
By default, LinkedIn shows "Job Title at Company". Replace it with role + skills + value, up to 220 characters:

"Open to work" settings
Turn on Open to Work and choose "Recruiters only" if you're currently employed. Add the job titles, locations and work types you want — these are matched to recruiter searches.
Skills and endorsements
Add up to 50 skills, but pin your top three. LinkedIn Recruiter uses skills as a key filter. Keep the names consistent with job posts.
About section and experience
Write your About section in the first person (unlike your resume) and include your main keywords naturally. Under each role, add 3–5 bullet points with numbers — the same ones from your resume.
Use "Easy Apply" wisely
Easy Apply is fast, but competition is high. For jobs you really want, apply on the company's careers page as well, and message the recruiter or hiring manager with a short, specific note.
Indeed tips
Use the Indeed resume builder or upload a clean file
Indeed lets you create a profile-based resume or upload your own. If you upload, use a simple format so the parsed text displays correctly. You can choose to make your resume searchable by employers.
Answer screener questions carefully
Many Indeed applications include screener questions with "deal-breaker" answers. Read them carefully — one wrong click on experience or location can disqualify you.
Job title and location matter
Indeed matches your desired job title and location to employer searches. Use common titles ("Accounts Executive", not "Numbers Ninja").
One resume, three platforms
You don't need three different resumes, but you should:
- Use one ATS-friendly base resume — single column, standard headings, keywords for your target role.
- Align your profile fields (headline, skills, summary) with that resume.
- Tailor before important applications using the job description. Our guide shows how to tailor your resume in 10 minutes.
Common portal mistakes
- Uploading a resume from three years ago.
- Leaving "Key Skills" with generic entries like "MS Office" and "Internet".
- An unrealistic expected salary that filters you out of most searches.
- A missing or blurry profile photo on LinkedIn (on LinkedIn a professional photo helps; on your resume file, skip it).
- Applying to 100 jobs a day without reading them.
Key takeaways
- Job portals behave like large ATS databases: keywords and filters decide visibility.
- On Naukri, invest in your headline, Key Skills and regular profile updates.
- On LinkedIn, rewrite your headline, use Open to Work and keep skills consistent.
- On Indeed, answer screeners carefully and use common job titles.
- Upload an ATS-friendly resume and test it before you apply.
